Everyone knows that macarons are a delicacy that come in many different flavors. Their build alone leaves the door open for plenty of flavorful experimentation. Trust us, we do it ourselves every month with two new signature tastes.
However, once you start venturing across the sea to Australia and countries in Asia, the experimentation truly becomes risky! We dug around and found some of the oddest flavors of macarons out there. While we may not be creating these treats any time soon, it’s still pretty neat to know that such creativity exists. Here’s a look at 7(ish) of some of the coolest flavors we discovered on our journey.
Anything Adriano Zumbo
Zumbo is an Australian chef who specializes in creating macarons that turn the average flavor palate on its head. Should you find yourself on the Gold Coast anytime soon, seek out these savory flavors Zumbo creates that include:
● Sriracha Macarons
● Bloody Mary
● Red Bull and Vodka
● Fried Chicken Macarons
Cheetoh Macarons
When they can be found, these cheesy macs can be found stateside in New York. With the outer shells powdered with Cheetohs, and the innards of the mac giving off a creamy, cheesy flavor, these macs are something that even Chester the Cheetah would run cross country for!
Green Mango and Chili
Sweet and spicy is always an adventure when it comes to flavor and we can bet that this combination doesn’t disappoint. We can already imagine the tang the mango presents combined with a sweet, lingering heat that settles on the tongue as the macaron is enjoyed. Our cogs are turning just thinking about this one!
Cheeseburger Macaron
No, this doesn’t taste like an actual cheeseburger; it only looks like one! This Australian macaron is a giant that is made from two plain shells with a chocolate-covered chunk of caramel in the center. Combine a shaved slice of white chocolate on the “meat” and you’ve got a truly “Big Mac”.
Vegemite
Vegemite is an Australian spread that is pretty hard to track down stateside. The savory spread is made from leftover brewer’s yeast and combined spices. While this may not be a flavor we’re used to, it’s probably got a kick that makes this macaron a hit with Vegemite lovers.
Wasabi Macaron
Wasabi is a common supplement of flavor for sushi! It’s spicy enough that only a dab is all most people need to get their nose running. We bet a wasabi macaron is something worth trying at least once for the adventurer; or at least someone with the need to clear their sinuses.
Champagne and Raspberries
Now, this sounds like a flavor we can get behind. The combination of a champagne flavor with the tang of a raspberry filling could truly give off an air of luxury to whoever consumes this macaron. We believe that no matter where a person comes from, this is truly a flavor worth ordering.
